I've been interested in animation for longer than I can remember. I'm mostly self taught, and seem to be improving with everything I release. I hope to one day further my skills. I love making cartoons.

I really do not like the idea of making something every period of time. I think that goals and work plans need to be bigger, larger, more complex. It'd be OK if you produced 2 submissions every year, if very good ones. But when you always attempt to rush your way through everything trying to meet a deadline for god knows what reason/motivation - that is totally unneeded and, logically, will probably hurt the quality of the submission.
I think it is good to try to make extremely large and complex projects that you will never finish (even though you honestly really want to finish it), because, from my experience, people usually learn very much and improve greatly after working on such projects. Which in your case should bring a lot more good rather than doing small animations periodically.
(To myself:) Marry me. (Walks away, switching into sprinting.)

I don't like deadlines either, and I really don't like rushing things, which is why I put my huge Halloween animation on hold. I was trying to make a 7 minute animation in a little over a month, and while I was surprisingly making great progress, I wasn't satisfied with the rushed quality. I've still been trying to get 1 thing out a month but I've been a bit uncaring a few months. I think the reason why I started doing 1 thing a month is cause last year I only had pretty much two good submissions and I wanted more this year, to show people that I'm improving.
I don't know how many large, and small, projects I've started and not finished at this point. I'll try to get most of them out next year, but that probably wont' work out, heh.
I think I like working on shorter animations more than longer ones, because they're quick, and it's good to get something out and over with, but longer animations seem a lot more rewarding. After I finish my Christmas animation, I'm going to continue working on a 12 minute animation that I started earlier this year, and that will probably be the only thing I work on until it's finished, unless I come up with an idea for something short while working on that.
And I definitely agree with your last point. I've gotten a lot better since I started animating, and I think it's because I was so ambitious and wanted to work on nothing but large, complex projects from the start. I really only started working on things that are less than 5 minutes this year.
Thank you for your input. I'll try taking things a bit slower next year. I've got a bunch of large projects in the works, so I might have to anyways ;)
