he he he he

what's a status update?

MistyE responds:

good

God the more I look at this the darker it gets.

The lack of gore really adds to the lasting impact of the piece and lets the imagination run wild thinking of just how fucking mangled the other half of that deer is, if there even IS another half.

If it was overly gory, I would've just looked at it, thought "yep, that sure is gory" and gone on with my day, but instead I looked at it, thought "what a well rendered deer" and then realized it was crashed through a fucking windshield and then wondered if it were the driver or if it got hit, the angle seemingly implying the latter, but then is it just a standard deer getting run over by a human, or is this a deer getting run over in a world of animal people? I can't stop thinking about what isn't shown and I love it.

It's been so cool seeing your art develop over the past year or so, and your style has really evolved into something so uniquely you. I'd say "morbidly cute" is a great way to put it. The deer is cute, the car is cute, but the situation is so morbid.

Good shit.

Bernie responds:

This is really flattering, I appreciate your interpretation a lot and how much meaning you were able to get from it

Gerkinman was somehow popular enough for 13 year old me to find

Gerkinman responds:

Probably through association with other more popular creators, ha ha.

Simplistic, yet expressive.

It certainly is a cute and simple drawing. Pretty neat style as well. The sketchyness of the lines mixed with the two colors helps show the color and feel of the fur.

The eyes do look a bit too derpy though. One looks okay while the other is really sketchy. I think if they both looked similar it would look better. I'm also not sure what's going on with what I'm assuming is the mouth. I think it's smiling but yeah, not really sure :/

Still a nice piece though!

Thanks for the review mate, I'm obviously willing to admit it was rushed (for no discernible reason), so I'm glad you appreciated it as much as you did.

I don't know, it's like art or somethin'... :p

The comic book style works well again, like with your last piece I reviewed. Nice coloring and line quality. It's drawn pretty well and the hair has a nice amount of detail. The hair is probably the best part of this. The curves on her neck, chin, and cheeks look a bit awkward for some reason, as well as the squiggles under her eyes. Not really sure what's going on there. There's also something about her face that seems kinda manly... unless that's what you were going for, in which case good job :p

A decent piece. It's fun to look at and has a neat style.

Aw, thanks :D That was a long review, and that's how I like'em :)

I'm not sure if there's supposed to be any sort of message here, but it's a really nice piece.

It's pretty big so I'm glad you put a lot of little details into the trees and such. The silhouettes are good too. Everything adds up to a really nice, dark feel.

The only thing I see wrong with this is the texture on the field just doesn't seem right. it seems more like concrete rather than grass, other than that everything's fine... unless that's the look you were going for, in which case disregard that ;3

This is interesting, it has a nice comic-feel.

The style is appealing and the solid black shading really ads to it. I feel like there could be a bit more detail in the coloring though, as well as something on his bald head, maybe some strands of hair across it or some shine. I know he's bald, but leaving that much space bare doesn't seem right :p

Line quality is pretty good and there is some nice detail in certain spots, but lacking in others. Overall, decent piece.

Aw, thank you for your response :3
I'll think about what you said in future works!

There's a lot of detail in this, like all the texture on the cloths and various other little things that make this neat to look at. I think the pants are my favorite part of this, they look like real pants. Despite all the detail though, the overall drawing looks flat, it might be the pose.

I think the most distracting part of this is the hands, they just look really awkward, but it's understandable because hands are usually one of the hardest things to draw. It looks like he's holding the axe so it would be upside down if he held it up. I'm not sure how that would be useful ;p.

For an old piece, it's still pretty decent. There's a lot of detail and it looks really nicely done overall, minus a few jarring things. It's always fun to look at people's older works and see how much they've grown as an artist, and you've definitely come a long way since this.

It's kinda cool how you took such a simple concept and made it so complex and symbolic.

I really like the representation of the planets through the texts that make them up. This is a really nice use of typography and simple shapes. The color and texture look really nice too.

I would love to see you take on the rest of the planets some day, this is a really well put together piece, and I'm sure that would be as well.

Decky responds:

Cheers for the review mate. If I ever get the time I'd like to make the rest of them. We'll have to wait and see.

lol

I like your taste in art. ;3

I've been interested in animation for longer than I can remember. I'm mostly self taught, and seem to be improving with everything I release. I hope to one day further my skills. I love making cartoons.
