Oh look, another iPhone 5 Ad. Don't we have enough of these already? The last one was tolerable, but this one... no, this one was just terrible. There was clearly no thought put into it and barely had any redeeming qualities.
The fact that this is ANOTHER iPhone 5 parody doesn't help its case, but being the EXACT SAME THING as every single other one is too much. They weren't funny the first time, and this one is no exception.
The fact that you blatantly rip off Cyanide & Happiness is also disgraceful, although since that's all that your other work is, I'm not surprised.
The one thing that you couldn't POSSIBLY fail at, lip-syncing, you failed at. It was barely accurate, and did not look real at all.
Every drawing is clearly traced, and what wasn't traced, were stock photos. Seriously, come up with your own art, it's not hard.
The voice acting didn't help either, the monotone voices of the characters were not entertaining, and made the entire video difficult to sit through.
The ONLY redeeming quality this had was the 'slightly' decent writing. It managed to get maybe one chuckle out of me, which was enough to keep me from blamming it.
I'm sorry, but this was terrible.

Finally getting around to reviewing this.

I really feel like this should have been longer, and after looking over the original script, and comparing it to the episode, I can see that a lot of scenes were cut, for reasons I can't think of. Cutting out some of them I can understand, since they didn't really add to the story. It's a shame that the majority of the ones cut, however, were in fact part of the story, including the set up for the journey to Trellutor (and the journey its self, which of course meant the cutting of the black and white montage, again a shame). Also some jokes which I thought would have helped got cut as well, but enough about what didn't make the cut, and on to the actual episode.

The animation and art were improved over the last episode, and the voice acting was great (especially for king William). At some points the story did seem a little dull, and that initial set up that wasn't present might have made a difference. Other than that the jokes and character expressions kept me entertained almost constantly. Something I find wrong with the story though is King Williams new found relationship. It's love at first sight obviously, but there seems to be no explanation about who she is and why the king loves her. That part needs to be expanded upon. I was hoping for at least another scene with King William, to explain that storyline, after all, the title of the episode is "The Love Epidemic" so I would think it would be expanded further. I'm guessing you're saving this for the next episode though, which is fine, but like I said, since according to the title, it should have been the main point of the episode, plus more king William would have added more humor, might even be room for your "white van in the park" joke. Just a thought on that. If you are planning to use the relationship in the next episode though, I understand.

I can see there are a couple of people that contributed to the animation, and at points it was noticeable with a change in art style, but that's just a minor thing.

All in all, there was major improvement on everything, and I really enjoyed it. Still a shame that a lot got cut from the episode, but I'm sure you had your reasoning, and hopefully some of it can appear elsewhere (since the work was put towards it).
Sorry I wasn't there for the final stages of production, congrats on the daily second, and I look forward to the next episode, and being more involved with it.

MistyE responds:

yeah, I can understand. A lot of scenes were cut because some of them didn't contribute to the plotline or add anything humor-wise, and others I didn't feel were necessary with episode 38 establishing the setup to the Trellutor journey.

the title can be a bit misleading - it was only conceived because the episode had two plots - one involving love and one involving an epidemic. Of course, when I try to mix them up into a title, it may give off a wrong impression, and I'll keep this in mind for the future.

I personally thought some of the different art styles possessed their own charm and contributed to the overall feel but that's my personal opinion, and a lot of people might disagree. Thank you for your in-depth review.

You submitted something without telling me?

I would think that since I told you how to upload videos, you would at least inform me when you upload something... oh well, it's alright. I am rather impressed with what you got done with anime studio, far more than I could have accomplished with it (which is why I switched to flash). Your field of depth on the robot from different angles is convincing, and his motion is good. As others have stated, there are some graphical errors, but that's obviously the limitations of the program. I can tell when you start using flash, things will improve greatly!

JoeSketchConcepts-NG responds:

Sorry that it took me a long time to respond to you.

I have done allot of work on the motions of the robot to look like a real life machine and following the animator's survival kit by Richard Williams. the bad part is that I tried to make it look like 3D in a 2D program. and I totally did not think about shadow, more detailed background and camera angles until a friend from class told me so.

BUT! I will do better at animation from what I learned from this project and more studying. I FINALLY GOT ADOBE FLASH in the fall 2011. It was priced at around $150 to 200$ dollars. But it will be totally worth it. once get started on a new project.

Ha, Great

For a short for an assignment, it was really well done, and executed flawlessly. Also, a little note, on his silhouette he was wearing his glasses.

Ayai responds:

darn it hahhaha. i wasnt aware of that. thanks for the note! i'll fix it :D

Umm, yeah...

The play button doesn't work, nor is there a play option when right clicking, so there's no way to play the movie. Which is unfortunate, because it actually looks interesting. Re-upload it with with a working play button, so it can actually be seen.

A good start

It's a good start for a series, although it needs to be longer. Also, I hope the display is bigger in future episodes, 'cause it was a little hard to see. Also, if you could find some voice actors, that would help too. Text can get annoying, especially when there is action going on, either you read the text, and miss the action, or watch the action, and miss the story. The art was detailed, and animation was smooth, so all that needs improvement is length, display size, and possible voices, or text control. I look forward to another episode.

LycanX responds:

@artistuknown thanks for this tips, when i posted this on FA the only thing i got was "where the **** is the animation" our "your sound quality sucks"
also about the display size, i believe i checked " do not resize but it turned out like this. ill make sure it wont happen again next episode. Also, voice actors is hard to find D:

A very good first episode

This was a good way to start off a series, it had humor, and a plot. Final Fantasy fans will definitely enjoy this. I will look forward to more episodes. There are some things that need to be improved though, The audio quality needs to be better, for at some parts it was hard to here. Put in mouthing if you can, but it doesn't really matter. Animation right now is decent and doesn't need to change much. Each character has their own personality, and that's good. Keep things like this and this could be an interesting take on Final Fantasy.

Epic

Very well done for a sprite movie. It was well worth the wait and action packed. And there was even some humor in the end. I was entertained until the very end and that;s always good. However, the sprites didn't look to well up close, probably due to the fact of being jpegs, and that's why I give an 8. Use higher quality sprites, and it will be perfect.

supersj44 responds:

i use an old flash cam which makes the sprites look bad and all the sprites were gifs in fact lol but thanks for the 8!

It's alright and all

But it just keeps looping. The fact that it doesn't properly end makes it not worthy of a 5. The animation itself was very fluent, and the song was alright, but kind of pointless.

Epic!

Every thing about this was extremely well done. I can definitely see this getting front page in no time.

I've been interested in animation for longer than I can remember. I'm mostly self taught, and seem to be improving with everything I release. I hope to one day further my skills. I love making cartoons.
